In 2007, a Pittsburg woman was coerced into becoming a part of a magazine scheme that grew to contain hundreds of victims while it lasted. The scheme involved selling fake magazine subscriptions to customers by getting the sellers (who were women) to explain their fake stories that they were single mothers struggling to make ends meet. As many as over 20,000 people were victimized into believing that they would in fact be subscribed to this magazine. The scheme took place in the cities of Pennsylvania, Dallas, and Seattle during the time period of February 2007 through 2011. 32-year-old Larhon Buchanan allegedly was set up with 44-year-old Samuel Cole, who is listed as her co-defendant on court documents. Together, they worked up the scheme over the course of several years and thousands of victims. Cole is contesting all charges however Buchanan is now set to show up in court in Dallas to change her plea.
