Dallas Protest for Action on Immigration Laws

Home / K&M IMMIGRATION NEWS Blogs / Dallas Protest for Action on Immigration Laws

As many as 50 people showed up to the Dallas U.S. Customs and Immigration office holding candles, a guitar, and signs protesting the current immigration laws and asking for movement on the new, proposed laws. The people who showed up did not plan a very loud or interrupting protest. They were only going to hold a calm prayer vigil, despite their intentions, Dallas Police stepped in and altered their plans. The President, his administration, and congress are trying their best to come to some sort of terms as to what the new immigration reform will consist of and how it will pave a way for immigrants to become legal citizens here in the United States. However, it seems politics, opinions, and the current laws are getting in their way. After being sent away due to their candles and signs being an “interruption to traffic”, the protesters moved to the back of the ICE offices to continue. Dallas resident, Laura Mendoza, stated that they are praying for the separated families and called for an end to the “broken promises” saying “the plight these families feel is real.” Laura, who is a U.S. Citizen herself  born to immigrant parents feels it is her duty for people like her to come together with her family members to fight for a better path to citizenship. The protest is said to last for the next 5-10 days in which they will camp out and fast as part of their fight for rights  in hopes that they too will get an answer from their local congressman. The protest was chosen to be held this week also in part because Congress returns in seven days. Another protestor stated that he feels as though both political parties are to blame for not coming to an agreement on the current immigration reform. Many are still hopeful that when congress returns there will be some light shed on whether or not there will be a system put in place that will “work with everybody.” Stay in tune for more immigration reform news and if you or anyone you know needs assistance with their immigration status and would like a free consultation, contact K and M Attorneys at Law so that we may further assist you.
